Jonathan Chapline is a Brooklyn-based emerging artist highly acclaimed for his boldly colored digitally inspired interior oils. Physicality and digitality, craftsmanship and technology are deeply intertwined in his artistic practice. Chapline usually depicts thoughtfully staged scenes that one could find in stock photos, Hollywood movies and decor catalogues, effusing false perfection. This characteristic vintage video game aesthetic is achieved by combining traditional painting techniques with the use of online tools such as Photoshop. The artist invites us to embrace modernity and progress.
Reclining Nude is a new collectible and limited sculptural ceramic piece created in collaboration with the Belgian design studio Case Studyo. Chapline picks up one of the most classical themes in the history of art, the reclining nude, to showcase the evolution of modern technology. The animating and life-affirming coral hue renders a humanizing and reassuring appearance to this digitally casted life. Chapline is one of the top artists of his generation and thus one to watch closely.
