More information about this artwork

Mark Ryden is an American artist considered the god-father of the Pop Surrealist or Lowbrow movement. Together with his wife Marion Peck, they have been named the Queen and King of Pop Surrealism. Drawing inspiration from French classicists and children’s books, Ryden’s pieces emanate crypticity and spookiness, hiding a dark and disturbing reality under a seemingly innocent kitsch aesthetic. The artist explores subject matters with contemporary cultural connection. Particularly intrigued with the double-standard governing our relationship with nature, Ryden questions the commoditization of dead animals or trees and its disconnect with the spiritual regard in which we hold its living creatures. Some of his artistic collaborations feature prominent musicians and writers such as Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, the Red-Hot Chili Peppers and Stephen King.

Wood Lincoln is a limited edition of twenty serigraphs encased in hand-carved mahogany frames. The image—which Mark painted exclusively for this edition—has been hand-screen printed in fourteen colors on a walnut-veneered panel. The panel has been emblazoned with Ryden's insignia & each print comes with a letter-pressed certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by the artist.
