Ed Ruscha, born in 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska, is a prominent American artist associated with the Pop Art movement. He moved to Los Angeles in 1956 to study at the Chouinard Art Institute, initially aiming for a career in commercial art. However, Ruscha’s fascination with the vernacular of the American landscape led him to explore various mediums, including painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, and film. His work often incorporates text and imagery drawn from everyday life, reflecting a unique perspective on the mundane aspects of American culture.
In 2025, Ruscha created “Begin Anywhere,” a limited-edition color lithograph commissioned to commemorate RxART’s 25th anniversary. This artwork features a three-color blend with torn and deckle edges, measuring 15 1/2 x 22 inches (39.4 x 55.9 cm). Each print in the edition of 60 is signed and numbered by the artist. The phrase “Begin Anywhere” exemplifies Ruscha’s characteristic use of text, inviting viewers to contemplate the open-ended nature of starting points in both art and life. Proceeds from the sale of this edition support RxART’s mission to bring transformative art to children’s hospitals nationwide.
