Artist Information

Manuel Carbonell was a Cuban sculptor considered one of the most important Latin American masters. Carbonell’s artistic practice is forged on a solid academic background, learning from Bourdelle’s disciple Professor Jose Sicres at the Academica Nacional de Bellas Artes ‘San Alejandro’ in Havana and from his extensive travels throughout Europe. Blending his mastery of classic technique and craftsmanship reminiscent of European masters with a unique personal approach in which the essence of the form is placed at the center, Carbonell created works with permanence and transcendence. His sculptures effuse a fascinating feeling of monumentality, meant to be contemplated against the scale of an infinite and never-reaching sky.

Manuel Carbonell’s internationally recognized monuments can be found in the world’s most prestigious hotels, corporate and public museum collections, and premium public spaces, such as his 53-foot bronze sculpture Tequesta Family’ located at the Brickell Avenue Bridge in Miami, Florida. He was recognized by the former director of Madison Avenue Schoneman Galleries as one of the ‘Masters of sculpture of our times’.
