More information about this artwork

Acclaimed for his vibrant and colorful flat surfaces, Alex Katz is one of the most respected living American artists with a career that spans six remarkable decades. With a minimal and highly stylized aesthetic, Katz is the visionary New York painter of his generation who embodied the defiance towards 1950s Abstract Expressionism and the anticipation of Pop Art. His works are defined by his extreme emotional detachment and his emblematic flatness of color and form. Katz has remained a prolific painter with an impressive collection of linear portraits and environmental landscapes.

Inspiring over 250 portraits throughout fifty years of marriage, Ada is Katz’s timeless muse. Ada x2 portrays a double image of his iconic wife. Her friendly and honest smile, serene expression and stylish pose dominates both compositions. Being considered an influential precursor to the Pop Art movement, Katz’s paintings, prints and sculptures are incredibly valuable.
