David Hockney, born in 1937 in Bradford, England, is a renowned British painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century, often associated with the Pop Art movement, although his work spans various styles and subjects. Hockney’s innovative approach to art includes his exploration of new technologies, such as the iPad, to create digital artworks.
In 2010, Hockney utilized the iPad to create “Striped Mug,” an artwork that exemplifies his embrace of digital media. This piece was printed on paper, measuring 37 x 28 inches (94 x 71.1 cm), and produced in a limited edition of 25 prints. Each print is signed, dated, and numbered by the artist. “Striped Mug” reflects Hockney’s interest in everyday objects, rendered with vibrant colors and bold lines, showcasing the possibilities of digital tools in contemporary art.
