Evgen Čopi Gorišek is a painter who captures the essence of life in the digital age through his luxurious and thought-provoking works. In his paintings, he depicts individuals who are seemingly always posing for a photo, dressed in designer clothes, yet with uneasy grimaces that reveal a disconnection from their surroundings. By using an airbrush, Gorišek creates photorealistic figures that are further elevated by the use of oil sticks to fill in the backgrounds with smooth, flat colors.
Gorišek's work is heavily influenced by fashion photography and the airbrush techniques of artists Austin Lee and Madsaki. He adopts the visual language of consumer culture and uses sunbathers and bodybuilders as examples of the modified body to highlight our obsession with self-improvement. With a faux-naif style, he subverts the ideals of perfection that are prevalent in society and exposes them as futile.
In conclusion, Gorišek's paintings offer a witty commentary on our societal preoccupation with self-image and perfection in the digital age. He blends his love for fashion photography with a critical eye towards the lifestyle and self-improvement images that are prevalent on social media, creating works that are both beautiful and thought-provoking.
