Miroir de la Tauromachie is the legacy of the influence the contemporary French anthropologist and writer Michel Leiris had on Francis Bacon. Titled after Leiris’ book, written in 1938 and dealing with the erotism of bullfighting, this series of works deliciously capture the antagonist and violent forces that possess the viewer when witnessing a scene of bullfight: repulsion and curiosity, animalistic desire and physical brutality.
