Leonard Hilton McGurr, known in the art world as Futura or Futura 2000, is an American graffiti artist, illustrator and graphic designer. While most of his fellow graffiti artists focused their artistic practice on written messages and typography, Futura developed his pioneering and unique abstract approach to street art. Starting his career as a graphic artist, painting live on-stage and designing album covers for the British punk rock band The Clash, Futura has achieved an impressive success in the areas of collectible toys, sneakers and clothing. The artist has collaborated with some of the world’s leading brands such as Nike, Uniqlo, Henessy, the North Face, Supreme or Levi’s, recently fetching $63,000 at auction for the sale of a pair of his Nike sneakers.
This helmet, showcasing Futura’s distinctive abstract strokes, marries art with functionality, leaving the visor totally clear.
