More information about this artwork

Henry Moore (1898–1986) is widely regarded as one of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century, celebrated for his organic forms and timeless explorations of the human figure. While best known for his monumental bronzes, Moore was also a prolific printmaker, using drawing and lithography to extend his sculptural vocabulary into two dimensions. His works on paper reveal the same sensitivity to volume, structure, and spatial rhythm that define his sculpture, often centered on universal themes of maternity, shelter, and the continuity of life. Through the medium of print, Moore was able to explore variations on his motifs with remarkable intimacy and freedom.

The lithographs presented here—Two Women Bathing Child II (1973), Sisters with Children (1979), the La Poésie series (1973–75), Three Sisters (1981), and Five Ideas for Sculpture (1981)—offer a compelling survey of Moore’s late graphic work. Each signed and numbered impression demonstrates his mastery of line and tone, translating his sculptural language into lyrical, almost tactile compositions. Whether depicting nurturing maternal figures or abstracted sculptural forms, these prints embody Moore’s lifelong fascination with the human condition and nature’s enduring rhythms. Together, they highlight his ability to fuse tenderness and monumentality, achieving a balance between intimacy and universality that remains central to his legacy.
