Maurizio Cattelan (b. 1960, Padua, Italy) is widely regarded as one of the most provocative and influential artists of contemporary art. Known for his sharp wit and conceptual approach, Cattelan’s work often blends humor with pointed social commentary, challenging institutions of power, politics, religion, and the art world itself. Throughout his career he has created memorable and often controversial works—from hyperrealistic sculptures to conceptual gestures—that explore themes of authority, rebellion, and collective memory. By combining satire with striking visual simplicity, Cattelan’s works frequently invite viewers to reconsider accepted narratives and confront the contradictions of contemporary society.
His sculpture We Are the Revolution (2025) continues this tradition through a deceptively minimal yet conceptually charged form. The work consists of an individually hand-painted resin sculpture mounted on a single nail, a gesture that echoes Cattelan’s fascination with everyday objects and symbolic acts. Though small in scale—measuring approximately 9 × 2 2/5 × 2 2/5 inches (23 × 6 × 6 cm.)—the sculpture carries a strong visual presence, transforming a simple wall-mounted element into a statement about defiance, individuality, and collective action. The work is produced as an archival pigment print on 410gsm Somerset Tub Sized Radiant White paper, a museum-quality material widely used for high-end fine art editions. Additional four silkscreen layers and a matte varnish seal enhance depth and surface richness, reinforcing both the durability and visual refinement of the piece. Window is signed and numbered by the artist from an edition of 300 and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The sheet measures 24 4/5 × 20 3/11 inches (63 × 51.6 cm.), and the work is presented in a framed size of approximately 27 3/4 × 23 2/9 inches (70.4 × 59 cm.), making it a compact yet impactful example of Cattelan’s editioned works that combines conceptual subtlety with meticulous production quality.
