Michael Page is an American contemporary artist best known for his fantastical universe. Being a self-taught artist influenced by the 80’s sci-fi movies and TV shows, he creates unique cosmic atmospheres, alternative realities, otherworldly realms in which narrative is placed at the center. His cast of dreamlike creatures and organisms of childish appearance, rendered in a rich and atypical color palette, seems to be the product of the subconscious or of the human delusion. Page has been increasingly concerned over the ecological footprint and climate transformation, exploring through his art the subjects of evolution, new life forms and science. He has become an important contemporary figure, exhibiting throughout Europe and the US.
Trusting Tree features a group of his oniric creatures in a surreal environment. With distorted and almost melted faces, their screams of anguish transcend the canvas. The realistic and naturalistic style in which the tree is depicted contrasts with the mystic and ethereal palette used to cover its surroundings. Page’s worry for the environment and ecosystem is clearly reflected in the title of the piece.
