Art meet activism in Nina Chanel’s work, which consistently makes powerful statements about society, race, culture, and politics. This piece, which debuted at Basel Hong Kong in 2019 challenges popular conceptions of femininity, showing a shirtless woman with a very real figure, rather than the rail-thin idealized figures seen so often in media. The woman also has visible body hair, which is still considered to be taboo for women to show in public. She is strong, holding a ball triumphantly above her head.
