Johnny' KMNDZ' Rodriguez, his name being a play on the Apple ‘undo’ function (Command + Z), is a leading figure in the graphic design community, having worked for some of the world’s premier design and entertainment companies. As a painter, KMNDZ is best known for his portraits of gritty skeletal robots and weaponry. He typically paints on wood with acrylic or house paint, using a matted palette that he sourced from his time in Mexico, ‘where nothing stands out’.
Nothing New Under the Sun portrays one of his emblematic rusty robots under a retro ‘circusy’ umbrella. This board encompasses the artist’s most blatant aesthetics, including the use of symbols and religious numerology and the juxtaposition of metallic objects next to nature-based elements, like the rain. KMNDZ channels his struggles into his art, sharing a message of love and forgiveness.
