Alexandra Nechita is one of the globe’s most celebrated millennial artists, having achieved an unparalleled level of global success and acclaim. Born in Communist Romania in 1985, she and her family emigrated to the United States, where they settled in California. By the age of 12, Nechita was crowned by the global media as ‘the pint-sized Picasso’ for the success of her cubist paintings, counting among her patrons some of the entertainment industry’s biggest names, such as Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg. Before she could drive a car, Nechita’s work was selling in the six-figures range. After taking a brief hiatus from public life to create new work and spend time with her young daughter, she began exhibiting a new collection in June of 2019. One of Alexandra Nechita’s earliest works, Manicurist/Hairdresser is probably taller than the artist herself was when she created it, at the age of 10. This cubist painting is a mesmerising example of the style that led to her being dubbed the ‘Petite Picasso’ by art critics.
