Jonas Wood is a Los Angeles based artist highly appraised for his fresh and quasi-abstract compositions featuring portraits, still life, landscapes and interior scenes. His use of geometry, pattern and color breaks down the picture in different two-dimensional layers, generating an illusion of depth and an abstract perspective at the heart of his characteristic aesthetic. Jonas Wood embraces a very intimate subject matter, creating artworks based on items, experiences and environments composing his everyday personal life. Wood is admired for capturing the beauty in the ordinary. His aesthetic has been compared several times to the dream-like atmosphere of David Hockney's paintings.
Featuring a patterned couch next to patterned curtains with a view to what appears to be a backyard rich in plants; this monochromatic interior landscape is a delightful example of Wood’s innermost and private art. The use of simple shapes and lines forms a jungle of different motifs, giving an unexpected depth and texture to the overall composition. After a while, we forget the different greens of that Mar Vista View only exist in our heads.
