More information about this artwork

Pop Art has an evident influence on the American artist Ron English, who has coined the term ‘POPaganda’ to define his signature appropriation and reinterpretation of high and low cultural iconography. Through the blended cast of mainstream and original characters, including MC Supersized, the obese fast-food mascot and Abraham Obama, English creates uncanny and humorous imagery for the street art, advertising, cinematic, literary and television scene.

In Combrat Boy, Ron English sets the scene for one of his creepy, deranged, psychedelic and unconventional representations. A satyr against war, this print depicts a young boy in a clowny attire who seems ready for combat, holding a hybrid weapon that combines the buttstock of a rifle and the fingerboard of a guitar. The potpourri of disconnected and unrelated figures, portraying aliens, cow-boy hats, turtles and even unidentified objects in the same picture, showcases his unique ‘culture jamming’ technique.
