Released in 2016 as an edition of 85 screen prints, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Flexible depicts the Griot, or a West African storyteller. Considering Basquiat’s artistic interest in his race and culture, it’s possible that this piece was, in part, an examination of his own identity.
