Hebru Brantley is an artist who creates narrative-driven pieces centered around iconic characters. These characters serve to address complex topics such as nostalgia, the mind, power, and hope. Brantley's use of bright color palettes, pop-art motifs, and relatable characters make his layered beliefs accessible to the viewer. He is heavily influenced by the AfriCOBRA movement of the 60s and 70s in South Side Chicago, which he draws upon to explore his ideas through various mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, and spray paint, as well as unconventional materials like coffee and tea. Brantley's work challenges traditional notions of heroism, instead offering a fresh and impactful perspective.
Brantley's work is highly sought after, with collectors including LeBron James, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Lenny Kravitz, George Lucas, and Rahm Emanuel. He has collaborated with brands such as Nike, Hublot, and Adidas. Brantley holds a B.A. in Film from Clark Atlanta University and has a background in Design and Media Illustration.
