Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century and a defining figure of the Pop Art movement. By transforming images drawn from celebrity, advertising, consumer culture, and the mass media into fine art, Warhol challenged traditional distinctions between high and popular culture. His pioneering use of screenprinting allowed him to explore repetition, color, and the circulation of images, while his portraits of cultural figures—from Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor to artists, collectors, and socialites—became among the most recognizable works of his career.
Created in 1975, *Paloma Picasso*, from *Hommage à Picasso*, depicts Paloma Picasso, the daughter of Pablo Picasso and Françoise Gilot, who became a prominent designer and cultural figure in her own right. The work brings together two remarkable artistic legacies: Warhol’s distinctive approach to portraiture and the Picasso name that shaped twentieth-century art.
